Are You Full Of Hope?

I have heard it said that you can go four weeks without food, four days without water, four minutes without air, but you cannot go four seconds without hope. What exactly is this powerful thing called hope? How does it work? Where can we get it if we are missing it?

The verb form of hope means to cherish a desire with anticipation. The noun form of hope means expectation of fulfillment or success. I believe this is the act of anticipating something better in life. Another way we could say it is having a strong desire to achieve more than what we are currently achieving. It is the idea of looking toward a brighter future with the belief that it can be accomplished.

Currently in the US, I would have to say that there is a giant need for hope. It can seem hopeless when all we hear is how bad the economy is right now, but we still need to look "cherish a desire with anticipation." We must expect to move toward better times. We can't just sit around and expect something great. Rather we need to be in action trying to improve ourselves and the situation around us. Being a light for others while there is darkness all around us can create that hope. Being bitter or angry about our situation will not change anything about the current situation. Only action will conquer our feelings of hopelessness. So I encourage you today to be the beacon of hope that many are looking for during this time of darkness. Be an up-lifter. Be an optimist. Be an encourager. Be one of action. Go out and fill your community with hope! God bless!
